Aclaración respecto al término utilizado en el título. El término Hors de combat, Fuera de combate, significa literalmente "fuera de la pelea", es un término francés utilizado en la diplomacia y el derecho internacional para referirse a las personas que son incapaces de realizar su capacidad para librar la guerra. Los ejemplos incluyen los pilotos de combate o las tripulaciones aéreas en paracaídas desde su avión con discapacidad, así como a los enfermos, heridos, detenidos, o de otra manera deshabilitadas. Personas fuera de combate normalmente se otorgan protección especial de acuerdo con las leyes de la guerra, a veces incluyendo prisioneros de guerra de estado, y por lo tanto se convirtió oficialmente no combatientes. En virtud de los Convenios de Ginebra de 1949, los combatientes ilegales fuera de combate se les concede el mismo privilegio y ser tratado con la humanidad, mientras que en cautividad, pero a diferencia legítimos combatientes, están sujetos a juicio y castigo, que incluye la pena capital .
